A warm welcome to Class 1-1! We are so excited to have your child join us this year as we embark on a fun-filled journey of learning, discovery, and growth. Year 1 is such an important and exciting time, and we can’t wait to work together to make it a memorable one.
Important information:
PE days: Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
After school additional phonics: Tuesdays 3.10-3.30
We are writers!
This term, we’ve been exploring the story of Hermelin the Detective Mouse. As we dive into the adventures of Hermelin, we’re learning how to express our ideas through writing. We’ve been practicing describing characters, setting scenes, and creating our own detective stories. Each day, we share our work, develop our creativity, and most importantly, have fun while becoming confident writers!
We are mathematicians!
So far, we have been focussing on numbers up to 20 in all their forms. We have introduced number lines, addition and subtraction within 20 and evaluating quantities in the form of 'more than' or 'less than'.
We are geographers!
In Year 1, we’re excited to explore the local area of Tuebrook! This term, we’ll be using maps to learn about the place where we live and build our directional skills. We’ll discover the streets, parks, and landmarks that make Tuebrook unique, while developing our understanding of the geography around us. By learning to read simple maps and using words like "north," "south," "left," and "right," we’ll increase our awareness of how places connect and change. It’s a fantastic way to see our local area in a new light while building important geography skills!
We are historians!
n Year 1, we’re stepping back in time to explore the fascinating history of our local area, Liverpool! This term, we’re learning about the incredible impact of The Beatles and how their music shaped not only our city but the world. From their early days in Liverpool to becoming global superstars, we’ll discover how The Beatles influenced culture and brought our city into the spotlight. We’ll also explore other local contributions to art, music, and creativity, helping us appreciate the rich history of Liverpool and how it continues to inspire us today!
We are artists!
In Year 1, we’re diving into the world of art with a special focus on self-portraits! This term, we’ll be learning how to observe ourselves closely and express who we are through creative drawings and paintings. We’ll explore different techniques, shapes, and colours to create portraits that show our unique features and personalities. By studying famous artists and practising our skills, we’ll discover how to capture what makes each of us special while developing confidence in our artistic abilities. It’s going to be a fun, imaginative journey into the art of self-expression!
We are theologists!
In Year 1, we’re embarking on an exciting journey to explore the story of Galilee to Jerusalem! This term, we’ll be learning about the life and teachings of Jesus, following his travels from Galilee to Jerusalem. We’ll discover important information along the way, such as 'Candlemas' and 'the Call of the Desciples', and explore the messages of love, kindness, and peace that Jesus shared. Through stories, art, and discussion, we’ll deepen our understanding of these special places and their significance in the Christian faith. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn about history, religion, and the values that shape the world today!
