Mission Statement
Rooted in gospel values St Cecilia’s Catholic School Community lives together, learns together, loves together.
Vision
At Saint Cecilia’s Primary School, we want the children to develop a deep love of English – both reading and writing. We aim to deliver a high-quality English curriculum that gives children the best possible opportunities to become confident and successful readers and writers with a deep love and understanding of the English language and an ability to communicate their ideas and emotions to others.
Reading is at the heart of our school and central to children’s learning. We believe that a curriculum that is literacy and language rich is essential to open doors for our children’s futures. We promote reading throughout our curriculum and children are taught to develop their reading skills every day. Through programmes such as Monster Phonics and Read Write Inc, we develop children’s ability to decode words and improve fluency. Accelerated Reader and Reading Plus promote greater autonomy for our children over what they read, thus fostering a love of reading for pleasure.
We strive to ensure all children can communicate clearly in written form and become masters of language. At Saint Cecilia’s, children are given daily opportunities to explore and develop their writing skills through a number of rich, engaging and creative activities in order to prepare them for the world they live in. We teach children at Saint Cecilia’s to form letters correctly and consistently, with a cursive script developed further in key stage 2. We know that using a cursive script helps most children become more confident, fluent writers and also helps improve spelling.
We understand the importance of reading, writing and speaking and listening in our lives and we are committed to ensuring we do our very best to help the children in our care become creative writers, successful readers and effective communicators.
